MCEC 3rd Quarter Report 2025

MAYUGE CHRISTIAN EDUCATION CENTRE (MCEC)

Quarterly Progress Report

Executive Summary

During the 3rd Quarter (July–September 2025), Mayuge Christian Education Centre (MCEC) continued to advance its mission of transforming lives through education, health, spiritual development, and livelihood support. The period was marked by strong program implementation across our partner schools, tailoring, ministry, health, WASH, community empowerment, and adult education.

Despite a few operational challenges, MCEC achieved significant impact and remains committed to serving the communities of Mayuge Busoga subregion.

Education

Primary School Support

MCEC continued its regular support of Mulingilire Primary School and Waitambogwe Primary School by providing eight teaching assistants (four to each school) placed in Primary 1 & 2 in order to handle reading and numeracy. This work they have done with love and passion.

Some scholastic materials and learning aids were supplied to the vulnerable learners and the school. With this support many vulnerable children in the community have enrolled in school. Waitambogwe primary two finished with 195 pupils and primary one with 197, for a total of 392 in 2025, compared to 2024 when they had 212 pupils, marking a record attendance for one term.

Vocational Training

The third tailoring cohort, which began on 2 October 2024, successfully completed training on 27 August 2025, covering an 11-month training cycle. Out of the 15 girls enrolled, 13 successfully completed the training. This cohort demonstrated high commitment and skill growth. Graduates are now better positioned to earn income, improve their livelihoods, and support their families. Each of our graduates was awarded with a certificate and tailoring startup capital (a sewing machine, fabrics, sitting stool and other essentials).

Adult Education Program

Adult literacy classes continued every Tuesday and Thursday evening.

Teachers remained committed to see that by the end of year learners are able to read and write at an average level.

The program continues to strengthen functional literacy and numeracy for adults in the community.

Ministry

The MCEC Ministry Department remained active and vibrant throughout the quarter. Weekly community fellowship and Bible study cells continued at the Centre and outreach communities (Lugolole I&II, Namusenwa, Wainha and Nabalongo). The ministry team reported good attendance and spiritual growth among participants.

Despite occasional challenges, the department maintained strong engagement and pastoral support to families and individuals deemed in need through prayer, counselling and encouragement sessions.

Health & Hygiene

Girls’ Hygiene Support

MCEC distributed hundreds of reusable sanitary pads to school-going girls and vulnerable adolescents in the community.

This intervention has improved menstrual hygiene, reduced school absenteeism and restored dignity and confidence among girls who previously struggled to manage their periods safely.

Midwife Deployment at Baitambogwe Health Centre III

MCEC’s midwife, Caroline, remained active and central to health service improvements in the community and facility. She has led antenatal classes for expectant mothers, helped close service delivery gaps at the health center maternal department, and strengthened respectful and compassionate care to clients. She also actively participated in the government programs of mass vaccination for yellow fever, polio, measles, and rubella.

Her presence and commitment continue to make MCEC visibly appreciated in the health sector at both facility and community levels.

Livelihood & Food Security Support

During this period, MCEC donated over 300 banana suckers to community households to promote food security and improved nutrition.

Families have planted banana gardens, and they have expressed strong appreciation for this support.

Agriculture

This quarter MCEC made the difficult decision to sell off the cows and all chickens after six months of laying due to unforeseen constraints; the egg production rate was not sufficient to meet all the production costs given fluctuating egg prices relative to increasing prices of feed-making products, both local and international.

The cow tried to give some milk, but after feeding the calf, the balance could not breakeven with the production cost.

Human Resources

Two staff members were relieved of their duties after sale of both the chickens and cows: John (farm worker) and Vincent (security personnel). These adjustments were made to improve performance, accountability, and operational efficiency.

Networking & Capacity Building

The Centre Director, Godfrey Nkutu, made a field visit to Gulu, where he met with LGM (formerly PEM) staff (Lucy and Franklin).

The visit provided valuable exposure to new potential project partners, best practices in community transformation, effective ministry coordination and program management lessons. These learnings will be integrated into MCEC’s work in Mayuge.

Challenges Encountered

  • Visitors of MCEC have been taking Bibles as their personal property
  • Many pupils enrolled in our partner schools fail to afford basic school requirements given high levels of poverty in the community
  • Resource limitations for expanding girls’ hygiene and tailoring programs
  • Limited human and financial resources sometimes prevent ministry outreach efforts to start distant Bible study cells

Despite these challenges, program teams remained resilient and committed.

Plans for Next Quarter

  • Scale up reusable menstrual production and distribution
  • Enhance ministry cell groups
  • Strengthen monitoring and data systems across programs

Appreciation

MCEC expresses its deepest gratitude to Global Ministry Partners (GMP) for its continued support, guidance, and partnership.

Your investment is directly transforming vulnerable children, women, families, and communities in Mayuge District. God bless you.
