Lifted Generation Ministries works alongside community members to transform rural communities in the Acholi Sub-Region of Northern Uganda by providing critical infrastructure and services that help empower and restore hope in the lives of people in need.
Many of the small communities throughout this region do not have access to shared community resources like safe and sanitary bathrooms, schools, or health centers. Children may need to walk miles to find a school, which results in many children (often girls) dropping out. There is no nearby, clean location equipped to treat medical issues. The presence of community buildings that offer a place to gather, learn, and grow feel like a dream….
Empowering Future Generations through Education
The old school in Agung Community was unsafe for use. Children would instead walk hours, rain or shine, to other villages in search of quality education.
Members of Agung Community provided labor, working with skilled builders to create hope for the children of their community, one brick at a time. Women in Agung cooked meals to give the men strength during construction.
A New Chapter in Health and Hygiene
The old latrine for schoolchildren was dangerous and unsanitary. Flooding would force students to relieve themselves elsehwere and also contributed to the spread of water-borne illnesses.
A five-door latrine was built near the school to help students while studying. Murals depicting best hygiene practices were painted on the school walls to remind students and community members of ways to keep this new community space sanitary.
Building a Community Health Center
For many years, the people of Agung Community have tried to gain access to a health facility. Finally, in 2025, a community elder donated one acre of land for the construction of the Agung Community Health Center. Through funding from GMP via LGM and the labor of community members, Agung and its surrounding communities will finally gain access to safe and good health services.
The donated land where the new health center will be constructed.
A New Laundry Slab
Before gaining access to a washing slab, women would wash laundry on the bare ground before laying it out to dry. Elderly women, including those suffering from health issues like leprosy, had to fetch water multiple times to wash their clothes at home to avoid contaminating water sources.
Women in Agung Community are grateful that the laundry slab has officially been handed over for community use. Not only will it reduce effort and time spent fetching water, it will also greatly improve hygiene and protect the water source from contamination.
