Impact Story: Agung’s Journey to a Safe and Dignified Learning Environment

For decades, the children of Agung Community in Northern Uganda longed for a real classroom. Their lessons were held under trees or in a cracked, fragile shelter built from local materials with conditions that put their lives at risk. Many children sat on stones or bare ground, and learning stopped every time it rained for fear of the building collapsing on the children. The nearest proper school was over 15 kilometres away, a distance impossible to traverse for young learners who often studied on empty stomachs. These challenges led to poor performance and early dropout, with some children never enrolling at all.
Turning Challenges into Change

In 2025, hope returned to Agung Community. Through the joint efforts of local leaders, community members and generous supporters, like Global Ministry Partners, the community began constructing a modern school. A school building with enough room for Primary One, Primary Two, and Primary Three, as well as a Head Teacher’s office and teachers’ staffroom. Parents, community members and leaders played an active role, volunteering labor, carrying bricks, fetching water, and supporting construction while a skilled builder guided the process. Every step reflected the shared belief that education is the pathway to a brighter future.
Celebrating the Birth of Classrooms and Restoration of Hope

Within months, a dream that had felt impossible became reality. The new classrooms now stand as symbol of resilience, unity, faith, and hope. A place built with love and the conviction that every child deserves quality education, no matter where they are born.
Why Is Support Still Needed?
This success demonstrates what communities can achieve with support. However, many children in Agung still lack a safe learning environment. More classrooms are urgently needed so these children can learn in safety, with dignity and hope like other children.
A Call to Build More Classrooms
We are grateful to God for using GMP and its donors to restore hope in Agung Community. With additional support, we can build more classrooms for children in Primary Four, Primary Five, Primary Six and Primary Seven, ensuring they never again have to walk 15 km in search of education.
Together, we can build more classrooms and ensure new generations of children are lifted up.
